In this workshop, the creativity of the choir director is to be promoted in a special form of improvisation with singers. The goal of the workshop is that the participants develop concepts for vocal improvisation in a short time – and can try them out directly in the workshop.

Structure and freedom of vocal improvisation

  • Can we all improvise?
  • How do you introduce improvisation to choral singers?

Signs and gestures for improvisation

  • How can you create a special improvisation with gestures and few resources?

In this workshop, the creativity of the choir director will be encouraged in a special form of improvisation with singers*. The goal of the workshop is for the participants to develop concepts for vocal improvisation in a short time – and to try them out directly in the workshop.

Instructor

Mara Probst

Mara Probst, was born in Graz in 1990 and studied viola, Théâtre Musical and media art in Graz and Bern (CH). She works as a lyricist, feels at home in improvised music and deals with delicate, abrupt or however-like movements, transitions or upheavals between tendencies in art. Experimental music, concrete language and various media chippings are part of the hybrid work of the composer-performer. As a member of the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra and the V:NM (Association for the Promotion and Dissemination of New Music), she has already performed on stage with renowned improv greats such as Steve Swell, Elisabeth Harnik and Annette Gießriegel. In Bern (CH) she founded together with her partner Johannes Feuchter (cl) Ensemble KRAN for improvised music and as a member of the New Music Network pakt Bern she created the concept for the lecture-performance series “music-go-round”.
